Two weeks ago in Te Ngahere we started making advertisements for the Bay of Islands P&I show.

Our WALT was to research the bay of islands P&I show.
We had to include questions from the success criteria like how long has it been running and what there is to do. Here is my  poster.

Should Plastic Bags be Used in Supermarkets

2 weeks ago Te Ngahere wrote a persuasive piece of writing about should plastic bags be used in supermarkets.  The Walt was to use a persuasive structure these are my reasons.

Noah
Should plastic bags be used in supermarkets

Plastic bags, they are really useful at the supermarket they help you carry your groceries from the car to the house when you get home but they aren’t good for the environment, and buying more plastic bags aren't going to help it.

Plastic bags don’t break down like food this is because the plastic bags are photodegradable meaning they break down into smaller pieces because of the sun.
This process of breaking down releases toxic gases into the air and creates a larger hole in the ozone layer which is bad because it makes earth a giant greenhouse by trapping the heat inside the atmosphere melting the icebergs which not only leaves the polar bears and penguins homeless but will also flood major low lying cities like  parts of New york and London and many more others due to the rising sea levels.

They use up natural resources like oil, gas or coal which, these fossil fuels are quite valuable as they a becoming more rare by the day not to mention it takes millions of years to form naturally.  According to the Wall Street Journal America uses  100 billion plastic shopping bags a year and is estimated that it takes 12 million barrels to make that many plastic bags yet how do we repay nature, we just leave things that aren’t good for the environment lying around to pollute and to let animals to choke on them.

Cloth bags are what supermarkets in New Zealand are switching to in order to help the environment before it's too late, but why switch to cloth bags. Cloth bags can not only be helpful but can also be reusable, and recycled. Unlike plastic bags cloth bags don’t release bad toxins into the air which in turn won’t melt the icebergs and won’t make a bigger hole in the ozone layer.

Those are my reasons as to why I think super markets should use cloth bags instead of plastic bags.

Common & Proper nouns

Last week Te Ngahere did a whuole class workshop the WALT was to learn about using pronouns in our report writing, so as a task we did a google drawing about common nouns and pronouns.

A proper noun is a specific name for example Golden Gate Bridge.

Last week in Te Ngahere we did our learning goals the Walt was to Identify what we have achieved in maths and our next learning steps , we chose them in a similar way to the writing goals. First we marked down what we needed to learn than we choose three to put on the slides. After that we put them onto a google drawing, just like we did with the writing goals.

Last week Te Ngahere worked on our writing goals, the Walt was to Identify our writing goals. How we selected our goals was by using the goals we didn’t achieve from last term, then we put them onto a google slide where once it gets checked by the teacher we do a drawing. After we put our goals on the drawing we decorate it so the teachers can print it and put it on the wall this parents can see what we've been up to in our learning. I think this will help us become better writers and authors by finding out what we need to do and we can learn what we need to.

During term 2 the Students of Te Ngahere and Te Maunga were doing some art based around koru and kowhaiwhai patterns each representing something, the walt was to draw koru and kowhaiwhai patterns. We did it in a process starting with crayon and with the side we went up and turned to make a koru.

Then we moved on to practicing with pencil and finally we made our final piece.  We did an outline with pencil, painted it with metallic paint, then finally redo the outline with vivid/sharpie.

For Student Led Conferences Te Ngahere made a google drawing, We made it to help show off our learning to our parents so that way they know what we have been doing here in Te Ngahere.

For the subjects we did reading, writing, maths, inquiry and art. I didn’t go to Student Led Conference but it was really fun to make and I was one of the first to finish.

Last week the whole school went to Waitangi Treaty Grounds. we did lots of fun activities. The first thing we we're told to to do was to make manu aute out of niko and we weaved it together, we got into groups of two, I choose my friend and we were the first to finish.
Than we played a game where two people had a blindfold with things similar to maracas and two people had to tag each other it was so much fun. After that we did a game called matou maui where there are two lines of rope and when someone called matou you jump all the way to the right but if they call maui you jump all the way to the left and if they call ki waenganui you jump in the middle. For the last task we planted some trees in a part of the forest and we learned that all the trees out by the whare were all  planted by very important people.

Than after that we finally left it was a pretty fun yet tiring day.

Making Ice cream

On friday week 7 Te Ngahere made ice cream but we were only allowed to make it once everyone had finished their learning plan. we also did some learning about it for reading where we had to make a slide show and answer the questions.

We also did a recount for writing, each student had different WALT’s some had punctuation while others had paragraphs. mine one was metaphores and similes I also used alliteration because of some help from a teacher.

Some time in week two an author named Tim Tipene visited our school to tell us about his books. He even told us why he became an author and about his teachers and friends and it was really exciting.

He has written about ten books like Taming the
Taniwha, Hinemoa te toa and Maui  - the sun catcher plus a bunch more.

My animation

The Cat in the Bag

Natsu was walking down the street, as he passed the market stands built up along the brick road, looking for his cat, named Happy. As he was walking in between the crowds that huddled by the stands, off to both sides of the street he saw something strange going  on in the alley, in between to large inns, as he moved closer he saw two men with clothing as black as the night sky.

Natsu got even closer to find they were holding a bag as the other one was putting the cat inside the bag.
“Hey you… give me back my cat!” Natsu yelled to the shady men, who ran off into the dark dingy alley and Natsu followed behind.

The  swift duo had almost escaped but then Fwosh. The duo had been surrounded by a circle of fire.
Natsu walked up through the fire  without a scratch he grabbed the bag from one of the men and looked inside to find his pet cat, Happy. Not too long later the two men were  in prison.
The End

For the last week of the term we started an animation about our narrative stories, I was working on speech marks when writing this story and I think I could continue working on speech marks.

The tangelo

21/02/2017

The tangelo was a bright orange with a bit of green stump at the top with some black stuff surrounding it, It was the shape of an orange yet as small as a mandarin that's why I think it's just that a mandarin.
When I was peeling off the dark orange skin it sounded a bit crispy like an apple but the skin was so soft, the inside again looked like a mandarin It even had a white layer of pith as if it were protecting the orange insides like a cage of paper, The smell was very sweet and I got a bit excited and everyone took out a segment of the tangelo and took a bite from it the flavor was sweet, sour but not salty, it's juice sprayed all over my mouth and on my fingers it was super sticky some kids and I went to wash our hands it was that sticky.
and that was my tangelo experience.

My class and I have been working on noticing and describing and we did a piece of writing about describing what a tangelo smells like and looks like and I think I definitely could have done better with descriptive language.

07/02/2017

I remember…
Waking up from a long sleep
lying on the black and red leather seat of the bus
as we made our way to Hamilton to see my grandparents. waking up with the sun being as bright as it could be, shining on my face through the tinted window.
I got up to look outside the window, watching the shady trees and  dark green bushes fly by as we made our way along the black tar road.
That was my summer.
We have been learning to notice and use structure in our writing and we have done a piece of writing,
we started by stating what we were doing
Than we had to explain what was happening
The third line described what I did
Than why I did it.
What I think I did well was describing what was happening I could improve on my structure
